Games # 3 to #6
In games #3 to #6 the Listowel U8 #2 team showed awesome improvement.  In game #3 against Listowel #4 the team showed more hustle after the ball and a better job moving the ball forward.  This resulted in the team scoring their first goals on the year by Nikki Eaton and Kody Heimpel.  The result was a 5-2 loss but the kids again played better soccer than the first two games.

After a practice which concentrated on playing defense, the team came out for game #4 against Listowel #1 to prove they listened to what we were teaching them.  The team managed to score two goals again (Kody and Desmond Darroch).  Unfortunately the defense could only hold the other team to three resulting in a 3-2 loss.  Again the players hustled & moved the ball forward well resulting in more scoring chances.  But the coaches were most proud of the defense everyone played showing us that they had listened to what we showed them.

Game #5 was against Listowel #3 after practice was rained out on the Monday night.  Our defense was better other than a few minutes where they gave up 3 quick goals against.  We continued to drive the ball forward and get more shots which resulting in scoring 5 goals.  Goal scorers were Coral Servais (2), Kody Heimpel (2) and Nich Verbeek.  The defense of Dakota Barfoot, Austin Lints, Karson Wick and Coral Sevais did a great job of keeping the other team out of our end.  The result was a hard fought 5-5 tie and the coaches could see the light at the end of the tunnel and a possible win in the near future.

A practice of working on offense and defense on throw-ins, free kicks and corner kicks on the Monday set the stage for game #6 against Listowel #4.  The game was back and forth for the majority of the first half which ended in a 1-1 tie, Nich scored on his own net but then came back to score on their net as well.  The second half was also end to end with great defense by both teams.  We manged to score goals with good team work and Desmond putting the ball in the net three times and held the opposition to one resulting in a 4-2 win for our team.  The forwards (Desmond, Donovan, Justice, Matthew, Nich and Kody) all got after the ball more in this game and help create the scoring chances while the defense (Coral, Karson, Austin and Dakota) cleared the ball from around our net and moved the ball ahead to keep the opposition at bay.

Keep up the effort and have fun!
